Almost every company that comes into our offices is looking to raise capital. The limitation on raising capital is generally not that the idea isn’t good enough, it’s the management team. One of the members of this management team is what we call “the translator.” It’s a person who takes your idea and puts it into a format in writing and in a presentation that investors can understand. If you don’t have a good translator on your team, also known as a chief money man, you have got to find one. When doing this, you should look for somebody who understands your technology or the business that you’re in. This person should be able to assist you in finding money since they should know good sources. They should also be able to take your story and put it in a format that will work for investors.
