People talk about seed capital for new companies all the time. It actually breaks into three categories. First, there is pre-seed. This is when you have a great idea, but not much has been done yet. The second category is the seed. This is where you have got an idea, you have a business plan and you need to seed it and get it started. Then the third and final category is what I call post-seed. At this step you have already gotten it started, you just need another kick before you can really go out for big bucks. There are different people that you go after in each stage as well as different presentations that you need to make at each stage based upon who you are bringing the deal to. Make sure to think through who you’re really going to and how you should approach them, every time you do this.
